Kuwait’s social media users peaked at 4.2 Million in 2024

In 2024, Kuwait experienced a significant surge in the use of social media, which has become an essential part of people’s daily lives. These platforms are no longer just for socializing but have evolved into spaces for sharing content, staying updated with the latest news, engaging in online shopping, and interacting with brands in various ways.

In a statement to Al-Anba, Hind Al-Nahedh, President of the World Electronic Media Club in Kuwait, announced that the number of social media users in the country had reached 4.2 million in 2024, representing 84% of the total population.

Al-Nahedh confirmed that the “TikTok” platform led the list of the fastest-growing applications in Kuwait, with 4.15 million users, accounting for 126% of the adult population. Meanwhile, “YouTube” recorded 3.46 million users, making up 79.9% of the population, and remained the top platform for watching and sharing videos.

Furthermore, Al-Nahedh added that Instagram is used by 2.8 million people, making up 64.7% of the population, while Facebook has 2.4 million users, representing 55.4% of the population.

On the other hand, Snapchat is particularly popular among young people and teenagers, with 2.26 million users, accounting for 52.2% of the population. This popularity is attributed to its unique features for sharing temporary content.

4 Main Reasons

Al-Nahedh explained that there are four main reasons driving users in Kuwait to engage with social media:

  1. Communication and Social Interaction: These platforms serve as a crucial tool for staying connected with friends and family, as well as for engaging with digital communities.
  2. Following News and Entertainment Content: Users turn to these platforms to stay updated on the latest news, as well as to watch entertainment content and discover emerging trends.
  3. Online Shopping: Social media has evolved into a key marketing platform, with brands promoting their products, making it easier for consumers to make informed purchasing decisions.
  4. Education and Learning: Social media platforms facilitate the sharing of educational and awareness content, whether from educational institutions or individuals, helping to enhance knowledge and spread awareness on a wide range of topics.

Record numbers of internet users in Kuwait

Al-Nahedh revealed that the percentage of Internet usage in Kuwait has reached 99% of the total population, with the average monthly data consumption per person standing at around 15 GB.

In terms of Internet speeds, the average speed of the fifth-generation (5G) network is 280 megabits per second, placing Kuwait in third place in the Gulf, behind the UAE (350 megabits per second) and Saudi Arabia (300 megabits per second).

Meanwhile, the average speed of fixed Internet connections in Kuwait is 120 megabits per second, securing third place in the region after the UAE (150 megabits per second) and Saudi Arabia (130 megabits per second).
