The Ministry of Interior’s General Department of Public Relations and Security Media announced that the new traffic law will take effect on Tuesday, following the completion of all regulatory and technical procedures. According to Arabic daily Al Rai, the move reflects the ministry’s commitment to improving traffic efficiency and ensuring maximum road safety.
The General Department of Public Relations and Security Media stated that the new traffic law includes a series of key amendments aimed at curbing serious and repeated violations by increasing penalties for several offenses. These include running a red light, exceeding speed limits, using a mobile phone while driving, and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or psychotropic substances. The law also addresses various provisions related to traffic control and the safety of all road users.
It added that the General Traffic Department will begin enforcement on the ground starting Tuesday, deploying traffic patrols and activating monitoring and surveillance systems. This will be done in coordination with relevant authorities to ensure proper implementation in accordance with legal procedures.
The department also launched a comprehensive awareness campaign in multiple languages to inform citizens and residents about the key amendments and new penalties. This campaign is being delivered through various visual, audio, and print media channels, as well as the Ministry of Interior’s social media platforms.
The department emphasized that the law will be applied without exception, ensuring justice and legal equality. Security personnel have been provided with the necessary instructions to implement the law professionally, while respecting the rights of all individuals in society.
The department urges all road users—both citizens and residents—to adhere to the provisions of the new traffic law and to follow the instructions and guidelines issued by security personnel in order to protect lives and property and enhance road safety.
It emphasized that the law’s objective is to raise awareness and improve traffic behavior, thereby contributing to a safe and orderly traffic environment. Voluntary compliance with the law, it noted, is a fundamental pillar for the success of national efforts in this field.
The administration affirms that the Ministry of Interior remains committed to developing traffic laws and policies in line with international best practices, with the goal of enhancing quality of life and ensuring the safety and security of all road users.
