Kuwait’s new advertising rules slash violations in four months

During the ‘License Your Ad’ campaign, 13 violations were issued for failing to renew advertisements and for installing advertisements without a license in the Hawalli Governorate.

  • Daily violations used to exceed 80 before the regulations changed, with penalties failing to deter illegal advertising practices.

  • The municipal audit teams will keep running field campaigns in May to check shop ad licenses and monitor rule violations.

On Thursday, Kuwait Municipality confirmed that the new advertising regulations, implemented at the beginning of this year, have significantly reduced all types of violations in the past four months. Muhammad Al-Subaie, Director of the Audit Department at the Hawalli Governorate Municipality branch, stated to Kuwait News Agency during the ‘License Your Ad’ campaign that the supervisory team issued 13 violations for failing to renew advertisements and for installing advertisements without a license.

He explained that daily violations used to exceed 80 before the regulations changed, with penalties failing to deter illegal advertising practices.

Al-Subaie mentioned that the audit management and follow-up teams of municipal services will continue conducting field campaigns in the governorates throughout May to verify shop advertisement licenses and monitor violations related to shop and advertising regulations.

The violations during the second campaign in Hawalli varied, including not renewing advertisements, creating introductory advertisements for activities without a license, and adding introductory advertisements for activities without a license.

Other violations included exploiting spaces and squares without a license from the municipality and failing to maintain advertising in the Hawalli area.
