Kuwait’s Interior Ministry and IOM conduct human trafficking training
The Interior Ministry in collaboration with IOM Kuwait conducted a training to strengthen efforts against human trafficking and enhance skills of law enforcement officers.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) – UN Migration agency in Kuwait, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior (MoI), successfully conducted a one-week training session titled ‘The Role of Frontline Police Officers in Combatting Human Trafficking’.
The training targeted officers from various departments including; Residence Affairs, Airport Security, Traffic, Legal Affairs, Public Relations and Security Media, Coast Guards, Port Security, Criminal Investigation, and Saad Al-Abdullah Academy for Security Sciences.
This initiative is part of an ongoing series of trainings designed to strengthen efforts against human trafficking, and enhance skills of law enforcement officers.
Some of the key topics covered during the training included:
- Indicators for the Identification of Human Trafficking Cases.
- National Anti-Human Trafficking Act.
- International Criminal Law on Trafficking in Persons.
- National Referral Mechanism.
Moreover, by aligning their efforts with national and international laws, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the broader socio-economic factors driving human trafficking.
This holistic approach underscores the importance of addressing the issue from multiple angles to effectively combat this global challenge.
Furthermore, the IOM Kuwait Chief of Mission, Mazen AboulHosn, stated that ‘Human trafficking is a complex global challenge that requires collaboration and a deep understanding of both legal frameworks and practical identification strategies’.
This training empowered police officers with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively combat this global phenomenon. It is also aligned with the efforts of the State of Kuwait in combating human trafficking, including the work of the national committee on counter trafficking.
The collaboration between IOM Kuwait and the Ministry of Interior underscores their collective commitment in combating human trafficking and protecting human rights. It also emphasizes the long-standing partnership between the two institutions.
