Kuwait’s Amina Shah clinches gold in ALKA 6 at Arab Women’s Sailing Championship

Strong Regional Competition as Kuwait hosts Second Arab Women’s Sailing Championship

Kuwaiti sailor Amina Shah secured first place in the ALKA 6 category OF the second edition of the Arab Women’s Sailing Championship, hosted by Kuwait at Al-Maseelah Beach with 37 competitors from across the Arab world participating in the evengt.

The tournament, organized by the Sailing, Rowing and Kayaking Committee of the Kuwaiti Marine Sports Club, concluded on Friday with an official coronation ceremony honoring the winners.

In his remarks during the closing ceremony, the Secretary General of the Kuwaiti Marine Sports Club, Khaled Al-Foudari, highlighted the strong level of competition witnessed across all three race categories — Optimist, ALKA 4, and ALKA 6. Participants represented the UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Sudan, and Kuwait.

Al-Foudari announced the results of the ALKA 6 category, where Kuwait’s Amina Shah took first place, followed by Emirati sailor Duha Al-Bashar in second, and Oman’s Ibtisam Al-Salmi in third.

In the Optimist races, Bahraini Malak Al-Dosari secured first place, while Omani Tartil Al-Hasani took second and Egyptian Laila Diaa finished third.

For the ALKA 4 category, Egypt’s Karma Walid claimed first place, followed by Emirati Marwa Al-Hammadi in second and Omani Hadeel Al-Mushifri in third.

Al-Foudari affirmed the Marine Club’s ongoing efforts to promote wider participation in marine and sailing sports, particularly among women, noting that the club is committed to providing a platform for athletes to compete and excel. He expressed gratitude to all organizers, the General Authority for Sports, sponsors, and media outlets for their support and coverage.

The President of the Asian Sailing Federation, Malaf Shrouf, also addressed the attendees, expressing appreciation to Kuwait for hosting the championship and praising the high level of organization. He congratulated the winners and encouraged all participants to continue striving for excellence in future competitions.

The championship, held from December 2, brought together an elite panel of international referees from Morocco, Algeria, Italy, Poland, France, and Russia, with all events taking place at the Sailing, Rowing and Kayaking Committee’s marine facilities on Al-Maseelah Beach.
