The official data reveals significant growth in online spending on international products, highlighting a clear shift in consumer behavior towards the convenience of online shopping using credit or debit cards.
While online shopping has become the preferred choice for meeting daily needs, this shift not only reflects growing confidence in digital commerce, but also indicates the impact on the local economy.
A significant portion of spending is now directed toward international online purchases, highlighting an increasing reliance on digital channels as the market expands into new horizons.
Furthermore, the official data reviewed by Al-Anba reveals that citizens and residents in Kuwait spend approximately 4 million dinars daily on goods, products, and services purchased online from international websites.
On average, there are around 180.09 thousand purchases made from abroad each day, with the average purchase value being about 22 dinars.
According to the data, the total spending of citizens and residents in Kuwait on goods, products, and services purchased online from international websites amounted to approximately 1.09 billion dinars from January to the end of September 2024, spanning a period of about 274 days.
This means the average daily spending of citizens and residents is around 3.97 million dinars.
The data revealed that citizens and residents in Kuwait made approximately 49.34 million online purchases from abroad during the first nine months of 2024, spanning about 274 days. This means the average daily online purchases from abroad amounted to around 180.09 thousand transactions.
Comparing the total spending volume of 1.09 billion dinars over 274 days with the 49.34 million purchases made, it is clear that the average spending per transaction for citizens and residents in Kuwait is approximately 22 dinars.
Credit Cards:
The data revealed that of the total online spending abroad, 655.7 million dinars, or 60%, was made using credit cards. This translates to an average daily expenditure of 2.39 million dinars for online purchases via credit cards.
The number of online purchases made via credit cards from outside Kuwait, during the first 9 months of this year, reached approximately 19.67 million transactions. This means that, on average, there were about 71,800 credit card transactions per day. The average value of each purchase made through credit cards was 33 dinars.
A simple calculation shows that the average value of a purchase made by citizens or residents online via credit cards is 14.6 dinars per day.
Debit cards:
In the same context, debit cards accounted for approximately 40% of the total spending by citizens and residents on online purchases using bank cards. This amounted to 434.4 million dinars, with an average daily spending of 1.58 million dinars.
The number of spending transactions via debit cards for online purchases from outside Kuwait during the first 9 months of this year amounted to approximately 29.66 million purchases. A simple calculation shows that the average number of online purchases using debit cards per day is about 108.28 thousand transactions.
