Kuwaiti schools collect 264 tons of plastic in ‘Amniyah Your School’ competition
On Monday, Minister of Education Sayed Jalal Al-Tabtabai, alongside the “Amniyah” initiative under the supervision of the Environment Public Authority, honored six out of 156 government schools in the third edition of the ‘Amniyah Your School’ environmental competition.
Over six weeks, participating schools collectively gathered approximately 264 tons of plastic waste.
The ceremony, held at the Ministry of Education theater in the presence of educational officials, recognized the top performers across different levels.
For kindergartens, Ahad Kindergarten took first place; at the primary level, Muadha Al-Adawiya Girls’ School and Abdulaziz Al-Gharaballi Boys’ School were first among girls and boys, respectively.
In the intermediate stage, Ramla Umm Al-Mu’minin Girls’ School won first place, while at the secondary level, Saleh Shehab Boys’ Secondary School and Al-Yarmouk Girls’ Secondary School topped their categories.
Sanaa Al-Ghamlas, CEO of Amniyah, highlighted the importance of encouraging schools to sort and collect plastic waste at the source, fostering a culture of recycling and environmental conservation. She praised the students and school administrations for their dedication and the large volume of waste collected.
Sheikha Al-Ibrahim, Director of Public Relations at the Environment Public Authority, emphasized the initiative as a testament to the Authority’s commitment to sustainability education.
She noted that instilling recycling habits among students is “not just a seasonal activity, but a real investment in a cleaner and healthier future,” and expressed eagerness to continue promoting environmental awareness through collaborative initiatives.
