Kuwaiti researchers win Abdul Hameed Shoman Arab Researchers Award in Amman

  • Established by the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation—the cultural and social responsibility arm of the Arab Bank—the award is the first of its kind in the Arab world dedicated to recognizing scientific achievement.

The Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation honored the winners of the 43rd Arab Researchers Award and the 19th Children’s Literature Award during a ceremony held on Wednesday in Amman, Jordan.

Two Kuwaiti researchers were among the winners, recognized for their outstanding work in the fields of water, energy, and food sciences, as well as the humanities, social sciences, and education.

Dr. Bader Al-Enezi received the award for his innovative research on water efficiency technologies and sustainable management practices, while Dr. Haneen Al-Ghabra was honored for her research examining the role of media in shaping public consent and influencing collective consciousness.

This year’s edition of the award celebrated 10 researchers from across the Arab world, including four from Egypt, three from Jordan, one from Lebanon, and two from Kuwait.

In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Dr. Al-Ghabra expressed her pride in receiving the award, noting that her study explores the intricate relationship between media and power, and how media channels subtly shape public opinion. She emphasized that the recognition is a source of pride for Kuwaiti researchers in the humanities and reflects the high regard of the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation in the Arab academic community.

Dr. Al-Enezi, in a similar statement, said his award recognizes his research in developing practical solutions to the region’s water challenges. His work focuses on creating innovative technologies to enhance water management, including smart irrigation systems and digital applications for monitoring and improving water network efficiency. He extended his gratitude to Kuwait University and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences for their continued support.

The ceremony was attended by Counselor Nasser Al-Mutairi, representing the Kuwaiti Embassy in Jordan.
