Kuwait urges global unity to confront crimes against civilians, protect human rights

Al-Fawzan in his remarks reaffirmed Kuwait’s firm commitment to the principles of international law, international humanitarian law, and human rights, stressing that the country will continue its regional and global efforts to protect and promote human dignity everywhere.

Kuwait called on Wednesday for concerted regional and international efforts to confront crimes committed against civilians, ensure respect for human rights, and strengthen the rule of law, emphasizing that sustainable development and lasting peace can only be achieved through the protection of human rights and the preservation of human dignity.

This came in a statement delivered by Diplomatic Attaché Faisal Al-Fawzan before the Sixth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, under the agenda item “Crimes Against Humanity.”

Al-Fawzan stressed that crimes against humanity continue to pose a grave threat to international peace and security, as they undermine the very principles upon which the United Nations was established and violate the essence of human dignity.

He pointed out that crimes such as deliberate killing, genocide, forced displacement, and torture constitute blatant violations of international law and international humanitarian law and cannot be justified under any circumstances.

Al-Fawzan reaffirmed that the right to life and to live in dignity is a fundamental human right guaranteed to all individuals without discrimination based on race, religion, origin, color, or belief, in accordance with international conventions and humanitarian principles.

He further highlighted Kuwait’s unwavering stance in rejecting all forms of crimes against humanity, regardless of where or by whom they are committed, underscoring the need for strict adherence to international humanitarian law as a cornerstone for achieving justice and maintaining global peace and security.

Al-Fawzan also welcomed the adoption of Resolution (79/122) titled “United Nations Conference of Plenipotentiaries on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes Against Humanity,” describing it as a step forward in strengthening the international framework for accountability and prevention.

He concluded by emphasizing the central role of the United Nations and its agencies in confronting and combating crimes against humanity, calling for enhanced international cooperation to establish effective mechanisms to eradicate such violations.

Al-Fawzan reaffirmed Kuwait’s firm commitment to the principles of international law, international humanitarian law, and human rights, stressing that the country will continue its regional and global efforts to protect and promote human dignity everywhere.
