Workshop brought together a distinguished group of legal practitioners, specialists and stakeholders interested in the resolution of cross-border commercial disputes.
The Bahrain International Dispute Resolution Council (BIDRC)organised a specialised workshop in Singapore on Friday, August 28 , focusing on the future of international commercial dispute resolution. The workshop brought together a distinguished group of legal practitioners, specialists and stakeholders interested in the resolution of cross-border commercial disputes.
The workshop featured a review of the Council’s work and initiatives, as well as the latest developments in legislation and arbitration procedures. Discussions also addressed the role of specialised international judicial institutions in advancing the international commercial dispute resolution framework and in providing a legal environment characterised by efficiency, reliability and impartiality.
The working sessions focused on the theme of “Assured Neutrality in Cross-Border Commercial Dispute Resolution”, recognising neutrality as one of the fundamental elements in strengthening the confidence of investors and commercial parties in international justice systems and in ensuring that parties to a dispute have access to fair and impartial proceedings, free from considerations relating to their nationality or place of business.
The discussions highlighted the importance of drawing upon the Kingdom of Bahrain’s longstanding legal expertise and Singapore’s internationally recognised and pioneering experience in commercial dispute resolution. Such engagement is expected to enhance opportunities for legal and judicial cooperation and contribute to strengthening Bahrain’s position as a regional centre for legal services and the resolution of disputes of an international nature.
Commenting on the significance of the workshop, Ahmed Hussein, Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR), stated, “This workshop represents an important milestone in consolidating the presence of the newly established Bahrain International Commercial Court (BICC), alongside other specialised dispute resolution institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain, within the global commercial justice system.
“It also provides a unique platform for the exchange of perspectives and expertise with Singapore’s leading model, which has established itself as an international benchmark in the field of commercial dispute resolution,” Hussein added.
The assured neutrality demonstrated by our courts is not merely a theoretical principle; rather, it is an integrated institutional framework founded upon the independence and competence of judges and extending to the laws, procedures and legal frameworks in force, thereby ensuring that every litigant, regardless of nationality or place of business, has access to a fair and reliable judicial environment.
We believe that the partnership between Bahrain and Singapore will open broader horizons for international judicial cooperation and further consolidate the Kingdom of Bahrain’s position as a trusted regional centre for the resolution of commercial disputes of an international nature.”
The participation of Attorney Abdulrahman Al-Houti, Founder and Managing Partner of Dar Al Muhama Law Firm, in this workshop forms part of his ongoing commitment to following legal and judicial developments at the international level and exchanging expertise with institutions and specialists in the field of commercial justice.
Such participation contributes to strengthening the Kuwaiti and Gulf presence in international legal forums and supports the continued development of professional practices in the fields of law and dispute resolution.
