Kuwaiti gets 5 years with hard labor for ‘killing’ wife
Public Prosecution had initially charged the accused with premeditated murder, as he fled to Iraq after the incident but the court reclassified the charge to ‘assault leading to death’

The Criminal Court has sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to five years in prison with hard labor after convicting him in the case of his wife’s death — a Syrian national — whom he fatally assaulted. The ruling followed his extradition from Iraq to Kuwait.
The Public Prosecution had initially charged the accused with premeditated murder, as he fled to Iraq after the incident.
However, after reviewing the case, the court reclassified the charge to assault leading to death, ruling that the intent to kill was not proven.
Case details reveal that the accused had assaulted his wife inside their home, causing fatal injuries that led to her death. He then fled the country to Iraq, where he was later apprehended and extradited to Kuwait under a memorandum issued by the General Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Interior.
In other judicial verdicts, the Court of Cassation upheld a two-year prison sentence for the tweeter known as “The Octopus,” and ordered him to pay 5,000 dinars bail to suspend execution of the sentence.
In yet another case, the Court of Appeal referred the Public Prosecution’s appeal against the acquittal of Muhannad Al-Sayer to the Chief Justice, citing a conflict of interest.
