Kuwait witnessed 83,000 medical emergencies in 6 months of 2024

The Medical Emergency Department of the Ministry of Health announced it will increase the number of emergency medical technicians in areas with high densities of campers and desert-goers.

• As gatherings rise during the winter season due to increased demand for camps, The Medical Emergency Department of the Ministry of Health will expand the number of first aid points at camp sites alongside the existing ones.

Osama Al-Mazen, the official spokesman for the Medical Emergency Department of the Ministry of Health, announced that the department handled over 83,000 reports in the first half of this year. This includes transporting the injured, providing on-site treatment, and treating patients in hospitals from January to June, as reported by Al Rai newspaper.

Al-Mazen pointed out during an interview with the ‘Ishraqat Kuwaitiya’ program on Al-Akhbar Channel that “the number of reports received by the administration is increasing from year to year compared to previous years.”

He noted that the medical emergency department handled about 5,000 more cases in the first three months of this year than in the subsequent three months of the first half of the year.

Regarding preparations for winter, Al-Mazen confirmed that “this is based on data from the previous year, studying all the reports we received, how to address them, and analyzing the challenges we faced so we can try to avoid or reduce them in the coming winter.”

“Gatherings increase during the winter season due to the high demand for camps, and we are keen to increase the number of first aid points at camp sites, in addition to the existing ones. For example, in the northern region, we have an ambulance center at Jaber Bridge on the southern island to serve this area, but we also aim to establish points close to campers. Additionally, we will increase the number of emergency medical technicians in areas with high densities and gatherings of campers and desert-goers. We are also working to prepare mechanisms, such as ambulances and four-wheel-drive vehicles, and to increase our presence, especially on weekends and in areas and times with large gatherings in the camping regions of northern and southern Kuwait,” he explained.
