Kuwait will always remember and honor sacrifices of Bangladesh’s Armed Forces during liberation

The head of Kuwait’s National Military Service Authority, Major General Ahmed Al-Shanfa, emphasized the deep and strong relationship between Kuwait and Bangladesh. He highlighted that this bond is confirmed by Bangladesh’s participation in the international coalition to liberate Kuwait from the brutal Iraqi invasion.

This statement was made by Major General Al-Shanfa in a speech on behalf of the Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Army, Major General Pilot Sabah Al-Jaber, during a celebration held by the Bangladesh Embassy, to mark the ‘53rd Anniversary of Bangladesh Armed Forces Day’.

Al-Shanfa said that on this occasion, Kuwait does not forget the sacrifices and efforts made by the Bangladeshi Armed Forces in liberating Kuwait. He noted that the relationship between the two countries has been characterized by respect and affection since Kuwait recognized the Republic of Bangladesh on November 4, 1973.

Importantly, the cooperation between the two nations continues across various fields and sectors, with a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding signed, the most recent being in 2022.

Al-Shanfa also expressed appreciation for the work of the Bangladeshi military mission in Kuwait and its participation with Kuwaiti forces at the technical and security levels.

Regarding coordination between Kuwait and Bangladesh, Al-Shanfa noted that defense cooperation between the two countries continued to grow at various levels. This included meetings at the level of defense officials to explore and develop cooperation in various professional military fields, such as the exchange of expertise and logistical cooperation.

Al-Shanfa highlighted that both countries seek to preserve the security of their peoples and the sovereignty of their territories, adhering to the same defense principles. They also hope to continue contributing to maintaining international security, stability, and prosperity.

On the other hand, the Military Attaché, Brigadier General Sergeant Karim Chowdhury, stated that the Bangladesh Armed Forces are undergoing modernization under the “Force Goal 2030.” He emphasized that they are professional forces, which Bangladesh is proud of as one of the largest troop-contributing countries under the banner of the “United Nations for Global Peace”.

Brigadier General Chowdhury noted that according to a bilateral agreement, the Bangladeshi military contingent has been deployed in Kuwait since 1991. They support the Kuwaiti Armed Forces by actively participating in constructive and developmental works in Kuwait.

Regarding Bangladesh’s Armed Forces Day, the Brigadier General Chowdhury stressed that it holds a special significance not only for the personnel of the Bangladesh Armed Forces but also for its people, as it represents the utmost importance of comradeship, solidarity, and unity in arms to collectively fight the enemy.

The Ambassador of Bangladesh to Kuwait, H. E. Major General Syed Tareq Hussain, stated that “Kuwait holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Bangladesh, and the ties between the two countries are inseparable, as they are historically linked.”

Ambassador Hussain expressed his deep gratitude to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad and the Government of Kuwait for their efforts in enhancing the excellent relations between the two countries. He also expressed his hope to elevate this long-standing friendly relationship to even higher levels.
