Kuwait tightens grip on worker rights, boosts labor protection, workplace standards
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Public Authority for Manpower held high-level coordination talks on Monday to intensify efforts to strengthen rights of workers, enhance labor protections, and improve workplace standards across Kuwait.
The meeting, organized by the Human Rights Affairs Department of the Foreign Ministry, focused on developing labor policies and legislation to balance the rights of workers and employers while aligning Kuwait’s labor framework with international standards.
Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Sheikha Jawaher Al-Duaij said the discussions reflect Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening labor protections and enhancing institutional cooperation among national bodies dealing with labor and human rights issues.
She said Kuwait remains committed to implementing international agreements related to workers’ rights, including conventions issued by the International Labour Organization and international human rights treaties.
Director-General of the Public Authority for Manpower Rabab Al-Osaimi said the meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to modernize and regulate labor policies in a way that ensures a safe and stable working environment for both employees and employers.
Al-Osaimi added that coordination with the Foreign Ministry is also aimed at strengthening bilateral agreements with labor-sending countries and improving cooperation with international organizations to streamline procedures and ensure effective implementation of labor agreements.
The discussions also reviewed Kuwait’s participation in the 114th session of the International Labour Conference held from June 1 to 12, attended by PAM representatives, the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the General Union of Kuwait Workers.
Officials from the Foreign Ministry’s Legal Affairs and Consular Affairs departments, along with labor specialists and government representatives, also attended the meeting.
The talks are part of the implementation of Cabinet Resolution No. 325 issued on March 30, which tasked the Permanent National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants with coordinating efforts among government agencies to implement Kuwait’s National Strategy to Combat Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling for 2025–2028.
