Kuwait, Switzerland sign MoU during political consultations in Bern

Reflects deep-rooted friendship and mutual understanding shared by both nations -- HE Dr Tiziano Palmelli

Swiss Ambassador to Kuwait HE Dr Tiziano Palmelli described the recent round of political consultations held in Bern between Switzerland and Kuwait as a reflection of the deep-rooted friendship and mutual understanding shared by the two nations.

Ambassador Palmelli said the consultations — held two days ago in the Swiss capital — confirmed a significant alignment of perspectives between the two nations on a range of pressing international and humanitarian issues, reports Al-Jarida daily.

“These talks,” he said, “reaffirms the strength of our excellent relations and showcases the convergence of our views, particularly on important issues such as the role of women in promoting peace and security, and the need to uphold international humanitarian law, especially concerning missing persons in conflict and post-conflict situations.”

He emphasized that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed during the consultations marks an important step toward establishing a broader development partnership between Kuwait and Switzerland.

“On the bilateral front, both sides have expressed a strong mutual desire to deepen cooperation across multiple fields, including the economy, healthcare, and tourism,” Palmelli said.
He added this momentum comes in the lead-up to the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, set to be commemorated in 2026.

He disclosed, the seventh round of political consultations was led by a high-level Kuwaiti delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Sheikh Jarrah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. On the Swiss side, Monika Kirgöz, a senior official involved in the talks, described the consultations as a “fruitful opportunity” to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

She noted that the discussions covered a broad spectrum of regional and international topics, including, enhancing economic collaboration, advancing gender equality and supporting peace and security initiatives.

A key highlight of the visit was the signing of a new MoU between the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The agreement aims to promote development and technical cooperation in low-income and developing countries, coordinate humanitarian response efforts during crises and natural disasters, facilitate the exchange of expertise and knowledge and launch joint projects in critical areas such as food security, climate change, poverty reduction, and sustainable development.

This strategic agreement underscores the commitment of both countries to work together on global challenges and contribute meaningfully to international development goals.
