Kuwait submits fourth national human rights report to UN Council in Geneva

The delegation from the State of Kuwait headed by Minister of Justice Counselor Nasser Al-Sumait, presented its fourth national report to the United Nations Human Rights Council today (Wednesday) as part of Kuwait’s participation in the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), during the 49th session of the UPR Working Group held in Geneva.
Following the session, Al-Sumait told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the report was prepared in collaboration with representatives from relevant ministries, national bodies, and Kuwait’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva.
He noted that Kuwait has ratified seven core international human rights conventions, along with several other agreements pertaining to international humanitarian law. Al-Sumait emphasized Kuwait’s longstanding leadership in humanitarian and development efforts on the global stage.
During the session, the Kuwaiti delegation engaged in an open and transparent dialogue with the international community, outlining the key steps and policies Kuwait has implemented to fulfill both its binding and voluntary human rights commitments.
Delegation members attentively followed remarks, inquiries, and recommendations made by member states and participating delegations. Each observation was addressed objectively, with relevant officials providing detailed information within their areas of responsibility.
The Kuwaiti delegation extended its gratitude to all friendly and sister countries that participated in the session. It also thanked the UPR Working Group, the Troika team, and the Human Rights Council staff for their support.
Special appreciation was conveyed to the National Committee, led by Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Duaij, for her coordination efforts, and to Kuwait’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, under the leadership of Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayyen, for its ongoing role in representing Kuwait’s human rights achievements at the international level.
The UPR is a unique UN mechanism aimed at promoting human rights through periodic, inclusive dialogue held every five years to assess each country’s progress and challenges.
