Kuwait says, Strait of Hormuz is international waterway governed by international law

Kuwait has reaffirmed its firm stance on the status of the Strait of Hormuz as an international waterway governed by international law, emphasizing the need to safeguard freedom of navigation amid rising regional tensions.
Leading the Kuwaiti delegation at a ministerial meeting convened by the United Kingdom via video conference, Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah stressed that the strait remains subject to the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982), which guarantees transit passage rights for all, reports Al-Rai daily.
He underlined Kuwait’s rejection of any unilateral actions aimed at imposing a new status quo that violates international law, calling for continued coordination with international partners under a structured framework to ensure the security of maritime navigation and prevent the exploitation of vital waterways.
In a related development, Sheikh Jarrah held a phone call with Marco Rubio, during which they discussed regional developments, including what Kuwait described as Iranian aggression targeting Kuwait and other Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and its implications for regional and global security.
