Kuwait reinforces its regional and global standing in sustainability efforts

The ‘Kuwait Sustainable Energy Week,’ taking place from May 11–13, will foster public-private collaboration and spotlight the latest innovations and national initiatives in energy, water, and environmental sustainability.

The Kuwait Sustainable Energy Week,’ hosted by the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, aims to support Kuwait Vision 2035’s sustainable energy transition and enhance regional cooperation between Arab countries and the Mediterranean in renewable energy research and technology exchange.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy will host Kuwait Sustainable Energy Week and its accompanying exhibition from May 11 to 13, coincidingwith Kuwait’s chairmanship of the Board of Trustees of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Arabic daily Al Jarida reported.

At a press conference on Sunday, Eng. Ahmed Al-Dosari, Director of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency at the ministry, said the event — held under the patronage of Minister Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem — aims to raise public awareness about the importance of preserving natural resources.

Al-Dosari added that the conference also aims to support the transition to sustainable energy sources in line with Kuwait Vision 2035, and to strengthen regional cooperation between Arab countries and the Mediterranean region in research, development, and the exchange of renewable energy technologies.

He explained that the conference will enhance cooperation between the public and private sectors, showcasing the latest innovations and national initiatives in energy, water, and the environment. He added that Kuwait’s hosting of the event will also reinforce the country’s regional and international leadership in clean energy and sustainability.

Al-Dosari pointed out that the conference will feature Arab Energy Efficiency Day on its opening day, in cooperation with the League of Arab States, while the second day will host the Union for the Mediterranean Business Forum, adding an international dimension to the event.

He noted that discussion sessions and interactive workshops will be held on the sidelines, with the participation of local and international experts. Private companies specializing in renewable and alternative energy will also participate in the accompanying exhibition, showcasing technologies designed to promote renewable energy and reduce electricity waste.

In a related speech, Dr. Futouh Al-Raqam, Head of the Energy and Renewable Energy Research Center at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, said the conference will address key issues related to the energy transition and sustainable development.

She added that the event will highlight the role of women in the sustainable energy sector through dialogue sessions, offering a platform to exchange ideas and recommendations. The conference will also feature celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the League of Arab States and Arab Energy Efficiency Day, observed annually on May 21.
