Kuwait records 43.4 pc drop in theft, robbery cases in first half of 2026
Minister of Justice Counselor Nasser Al-Sumait said theft cases registered with the Public Prosecution fell by 43.4 percent during the first half of 2026, compared with the same period in 2025.
According to Ministry of Justice statistics, the number of theft cases dropped from 781 cases in the first half of 2025 to 442 cases during the same period of 2026. The decline included several serious forms of theft, particularly robbery, which fell by 66.4 percent, from 107 cases to 36 cases.
Cases involving theft through breaking and entering or using an unusual means also declined by 48.5 percent, falling from 334 cases to 172 cases. Other theft cases recorded a 36.2 percent decrease, dropping from 287 cases in the first half of 2025 to 183 cases during the same period of 2026.
Al-Sumait said the figures show a general decline in the number of serious crimes during the period. He attributed the trend to the government’s continued development of the penal system, along with ongoing security and awareness efforts aimed at preventing and combating crime.
The minister said crime indicators will continue to be monitored and linked to legislative reviews to strengthen the protection of society, individuals and property.
