Kuwait reaffirms firm commitment to chemical weapons ban at global conference

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense and Chairman of the National Committee for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Meshaal Al-Sabah, reaffirmed Kuwait’s unwavering commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention and its efforts to ensure a Middle East — and a world — free of chemical weapons.

In a statement issued today, the Ministry of Defense noted that Sheikh Abdullah delivered Kuwait’s national address to the 30th Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CSP-30), held in The Hague, Netherlands.

He underscored the importance of all member states adhering fully to verification mechanisms and ensuring accountability for any violations of the Convention.

Sheikh Abdullah also emphasized Kuwait’s aspiration to help strengthen the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) by forming new scientific teams that enhance research and verification capabilities and reaffirmed Kuwait’s support for establishing a specialized scientific laboratory within the country.

Calling for deeper international cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah stressed the importance of maintaining constructive dialogue to reinforce global peace and security and to ensure strict compliance with the Chemical Weapons Convention.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Kuwaiti delegation held several bilateral meetings with heads of delegations and international officials, discussing opportunities to expand cooperation and exchange expertise in technical and legislative matters related to implementing the Convention.

The delegation included Acting Chargé d’Affaires at the Kuwait Embassy in the Netherlands, Ibrahim Al-Dai, along with representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense.
