Kuwait powers ahead with 35.9 mln dinars solar grid link, 42.2 mln dinars water upgrade
From solar to water security, Kuwait accelerates energy transition and infrastructure expansion with projects worth over 78 mln dinars
The Central Agency for Public Tenders has approved awarding a contract for the supply and installation of a 400 kV overhead transmission line linking the Al-Shaqaya Solar Power Station to the Al-Wafra Z Substation.
The project, valued at KD 35.96 million, was awarded to the lowest bidder meeting all technical and financial requirements, underscoring Kuwait’s commitment to expanding renewable energy integration within the national grid.
Implemented under the plans of the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, the new line will enable efficient transmission of solar-generated power to key load centers, strengthen grid reliability, and enhance capacity to meet rising electricity demand, particularly during peak summer periods.
In a separate decision, the agency also approved a contract worth KD 42.26 million for the construction, upgrading, and maintenance of the water distribution complex in the Hawalli Governorate.
The project aims to modernize water infrastructure by upgrading reservoirs, pumping stations, and distribution networks, while introducing advanced monitoring and control systems to improve efficiency and reduce losses.
This development comes in response to ongoing urban and population growth in the governorate, supporting long-term sustainability and ensuring reliable, high-quality water services in line with Kuwait’s broader infrastructure and development strategy.
