Kuwait officially joins Union of Tax Authorities in Islamic Countries
The move aims to facilitate the improvement of tax administration and strengthen the imposition of taxes in accordance with Islamic law, with special reference to Zakat in Islamic countries.
Decree-Law No. 99 of 2024 has been issued, granting approval for Kuwait to join the Union of Tax Authorities in Islamic Countries and adopt its Statute, as reported by Al Qabas newspaper.
The explanatory note stated that “joining the union aims to facilitate the improvement of tax administration and strengthen the imposition of taxes in accordance with Islamic law, with special reference to Zakat in Islamic countries. This initiative seeks to address the rapid challenges in the world, provide a forum for discussion and experience exchange, and develop tax policies and tax administration departments in all their aspects across member countries. It also aims to encourage cooperation and mutual assistance between tax authorities and enhance the important role of Zakat and tax management in fostering economic development.”
