Kuwait Media Award “Sheraa” launched to honor excellence and innovation in journalism

The Ministry of Information has launched the annual Kuwait Media Award “Sheraa” to support and recognize Kuwaiti creative media professionals across various fields, aiming to promote meaningful and sustainable media content.
The “Khafta” in the annual Kuwait Media Award “Sheraa,” announced by Minister of Information and Culture Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi last week, aims to encourage excellence in media and journalism, while honoring individuals who contribute to fostering innovation, creativity, and enriching Kuwait’s vibrant media landscape.
During a press conference held by the Supreme Committee of the Kuwait Media Award yesterday, Chairman Saad Al-Ali stated that the annual award honors outstanding contributions of Kuwaiti media professionals, emphasizing their role in solidifying Kuwait’s status as a media leader in the Arab world.
Al-Ali stressed that the award aims to foster creativity, innovation, and create a competitive environment that enhances quality and professionalism in the Kuwaiti media sector, while also highlighting the media’s role in shaping public opinion and supporting societal issues.
Importantly, Al-Ali explained that Kuwait has long been a leader in the Arab media scene, promoting creativity, freedom of expression, and media integrity. He added that, as the holder of the title “Capital of Arab Culture and Media” this year, the “Sheraa Award” is a timely recognition of the media’s role in telling Kuwait’s story to the world.
Al-Ali emphasized that the award reflects appreciation for the media’s significant impact in shaping visions, promoting dialogue, and advancing development.

Al-Ali outlined that the “Sheraa Award” will be presented in 16 media categories.

The committee will also nominate the Media Personality of the Year, with the honor recognizing the individual’s overall body of work and their positive impact on the Kuwaiti media landscape.
Al-Ali highlighted that registration for the award will open in April 2025 and last for three months. The Ministry of Information encourages media professionals and institutions to submit their entries during this period.
Specialized jury committees will evaluate the submissions across various categories, with the winners to be announced at a grand ceremony in December 2025.
Participation Details:
Al-Ali clarified that works eligible for the award must have been published since April of the previous year until the final registration day. The award is open to participation from both official and private media. He also mentioned that there will be four arbitration committees, each consisting of five specialized members from the media field.
Regarding the award, Al-Ali mentioned that the value of the award will be announced at the appropriate time. He emphasized that the award, launched this year in conjunction with Kuwait’s selection as the Capital of Arab Culture and Media, will be limited to the work of Kuwaiti media and professionals.
Al-Ali expressed appreciation for all individuals in the field of journalism and media, both Kuwaiti and non-Kuwaiti, acknowledging their contributions.
