Kuwait gearing up to take part in Doha-hosted Gulf Games
Kuwait is gearing up to take part in the fourth Gulf Games, Doha 2026, to begin Monday in the Qatari capital and continue until May 22.
The games will feature athletes from Gulf countries competing in 19 sports, including handball, table tennis, athletics, squash, padel, fencing, boxing, taekwondo, karate, swimming and shooting.
This is in addition to basketball, volleyball, equestrian events, bowling, billiards and snooker are also included in the competition.
Held under the slogan “One Gulf, One Heart,” the event will gather around 1,074 male and female athletes. Kuwait will participate with 120 athletes competing in 13 sports, including handball, athletics, swimming, bowling, fencing, taekwondo, karate and basketball 3×3.
Competitions will be held across 11 venues equipped with modern facilities, including Aspire Dome, Hamad Aquatic Center, Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex and Lusail Shooting Range.
The organizers said preparations had been completed to host the event according to the highest organizational and technical standards. The organizing committee unveiled the tournament mascot “Washeq,” inspired by the desert lynx, a symbol of the Arabian Peninsula’s natural environment.
The event logo was inspired by the palm tree, reflecting shared Gulf values including resilience, generosity and strong ties to heritage and land.
The first Gulf Games were held in Bahrain in 2011, followed by the second edition in Saudi Arabia in 2015 and the third edition in Kuwait in 2022.
