Kuwait Disallows Extension of Entry Visas Amid Exceptional Circumstances

The Office of the Assistant Foreign Minister for Protocol Affairs has informed all diplomatic missions and regional and international organizations accredited to Kuwait that entry visas issued to individuals outside the country cannot be extended under any circumstances.
According to a circular obtained by Al-Jarida, the decision applies to all categories of entry visas, including private work, domestic work, and family reunification. The move comes in light of ongoing exceptional conditions that have prevented many visa holders from entering Kuwait.
The circular noted that a significant number of foreigners who were granted valid entry visas or who hold valid residency permits have been unable to return to Kuwait due to these circumstances. As a result, authorities have introduced a set of measures to address the situation.
Under the new directives, employers or sponsors must submit fresh applications to obtain new entry visas for affected individuals. This process will follow the standard procedures and regulations once the issuance of entry visas resumes.
In addition, the Ministry of Interior has taken steps to support residents stranded abroad. The circular confirmed that the ministry has updated its electronic system to automatically grant a three-month absence allowance to expatriates who have remained outside Kuwait for more than six months and were unable to return.
This grace period, effective from February 28, 2026, aims to prevent the cancellation of residency permits for those impacted by the travel disruptions.
