Kuwait deepens global partnerships on human rights, women’s empowerment

Kuwait places strong emphasis on fostering institutional partnerships to tackle development and humanitarian challenges, stressing their importance in creating more just and inclusive societies -- Sheikha Jawaher Al-Duaij

As part of Kuwait’s efforts to bolster international partnerships in the fields of human rights and sustainable development, Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Duaij, held high-level meetings in Vienna on the sidelines of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

Ambassador Al-Duaij met separately with former Austrian President and President of the Ban Ki-moon Center for Global Citizenship, Dr. Heinz Fischer, and Ambassador Emil Brix, Director of the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna.

During her visit to the Ban Ki-moon Center, Al-Duaij discussed opportunities for joint cooperation, particularly in youth and women’s empowerment and the advancement of global sustainable development goals.

She highlighted Kuwait’s commitment—as one of the founding members of the Center — to promoting the values of citizenship, equality, and human rights. She praised the Center’s role in advancing sustainable development both regionally and globally.

Al-Duaij told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that Kuwait places strong emphasis on fostering institutional partnerships to tackle development and humanitarian challenges, stressing their importance in creating more just and inclusive societies.

The Ban Ki-moon Center, established in 2018 by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Dr. Fischer with support from Kuwait and South Korea, works to empower women and youth and to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In a separate meeting at the Diplomatic Academy, Al-Duaij and Ambassador Brix explored avenues for academic collaboration, including the organization of workshops and specialized training programs focused on women’s empowerment in diplomacy.

The discussions also touched on bilateral relations between Kuwait and Austria, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Al-Duaij reaffirmed the strength of these longstanding relations and both sides’ shared commitment to deepening cooperation across multiple sectors.
