Kuwait Customs tells travelers, ‘Declare cash, negotiable instruments worth 3,000 dinars or more’

  • If you are traveling with cash or certain transferable financial documents that can be used to move or receive money, their value may have to be declared when it reaches the legal threshold.

The General Administration of Customs has reminded travelers entering or leaving Kuwait that they must declare any cash or bearer negotiable financial instruments in their possession with a value equivalent to 3,000 Kuwaiti dinars or more. Customs stressed that failure to make the required declaration may result in legal accountability.

The declaration requirement applies to currency and bearer negotiable financial instruments carried by travelers when their total value reaches the legally prescribed threshold. The measure is governed by Law No. 106 of 2013 and Minister of Finance Decision No. 37 of 2013, which regulate the movement of funds through Kuwait’s border crossings and establish requirements for declaring funds.

Customs officials urged travelers to familiarize themselves with the rules and complete the required declaration procedures to avoid violations and facilitate their passage through customs.

The administration emphasized that declaring funds meeting the threshold is a legal obligation, not an optional procedure, and called on all travelers to cooperate with customs authorities when entering or leaving the country.
