Kuwait broadens e-Visa eligibility for expat professionals residing in GCC countries

Policy maintains clear exclusions as citizens of some countries are not eligible for the e-visa and must instead apply in person at a Kuwaiti embassy or consulate in their GCC country of residence

In a significant step toward modernizing its immigration processes, Kuwait has updated and clarified the eligibility rules for its electronic visa (e-visa) system. The move, aimed at improving accessibility for qualified expatriates residing in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, also ensures that national security and regulatory standards are preserved.

According to the new guidelines, expatriates living in GCC countries can now apply for a Kuwait e-visa if they meet a set of specific conditions.

Applicants, as reported by local media, must hold a valid GCC residency for more than six months and a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date of the planned entry into Kuwait.

Additionally, their employment must fall within a list of approved professions, which includes doctors, engineers, lawyers, teachers, journalists, and business managers. A clean legal record is also a mandatory requirement.

However, the policy maintains clear exclusions. Nationals of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, and Yemen are not eligible for the e-visa and must instead apply in person at a Kuwaiti embassy or consulate in their GCC country of residence.

In contrast, citizens of 53 countries — including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and several others across Europe and Asia — are permitted to obtain a visit visa upon arrival at Kuwait International Airport. These travelers must carry a passport valid for at least six months, a return ticket, and provide the address of their accommodation, which must be registered at the visa counter.

How to Apply for the Kuwait e-Visa

The e-visa process is fully digital, and applications are typically processed within 1 to 3 business days. To apply, GCC expatriates must upload:

  • A digital copy of the passport’s biodata page
  • Proof of valid GCC residency
  • A return ticket
  • A recent passport-sized photograph
  • Accommodation details in Kuwait
  • Proof of profession (if applicable)

Once approved, the e-visa is delivered by email, and travelers are required to print a copy and carry it with them when entering Kuwait.

Visa Validity and Duration of Stay

The e-visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issuance. Upon entry, visitors are allowed to stay in Kuwait for up to 90 days. Authorities remind expatriates to ensure that all documents remain valid throughout their stay and to comply with Kuwaiti laws and regulations.

This update to Kuwait’s immigration system is part of broader efforts to streamline entry procedures, support tourism and business travel, and align with regional best practices while maintaining strict oversight and security.
