Kuwait braces for hotter weather as Al Thuraya season, ‘Marbaniyat Al Qaydh’ kick off
Al-Ujairi Scientific Center urges the public to take necessary precautions during coming weeks, particularly during high temperatures and dusty conditions, as Kuwait transitions into the heart of the summer season.

The Al-Ujairi Scientific Center has announced that Kuwait will enter the “Al Thuraya” season on June 7, marking the beginning of one of the most significant astronomical and climatic periods of the year.
The season, which lasts for 13 days, is traditionally associated with the appearance of the Al Thuraya (Pleiades) star cluster and the onset of increasingly hot summer conditions across the region.
According to the center, the season is characterized by a noticeable rise in temperatures and heightened activity of the northwesterly “Bawarih” winds, which often carry dust and sand, reducing visibility and affecting outdoor activities.
The center noted that the Pleiades star cluster rises in the eastern sky and remains visible for extended periods during the night until June 19.
The center explained that Al Thuraya is regarded as the first season of summer in traditional Gulf astronomy and signals the beginning of “Marbaniyat Al Qaydh,” a period known for intense heat, dry weather, and the gradual onset of dust storms.
During this phase, vegetation begins to dry out as temperatures continue to climb across Kuwait and neighboring Gulf countries.
Astronomers also pointed out that this season coincides with the period when the sun rises and sets close to its northernmost point on the horizon.
The Pleiades itself is a distinctive cluster of closely grouped stars that appears as a bright cloud in the night sky, with seven prominent stars that have long held cultural and navigational significance in Arab heritage.
With the arrival of the traditional “summer heat”, residents can expect a more pronounced increase in daytime temperatures, particularly from sunrise until sunset.
The combination of strong northwesterly winds and soaring temperatures is expected to contribute to frequent dust activity and challenging weather conditions throughout the Gulf region.
The Al-Ujairi Scientific Center urged the public to take necessary precautions during the coming weeks, particularly during periods of high temperatures and dusty conditions, as Kuwait transitions into the heart of the summer season.
