Kuwait bids farewell to a visionary, founder of Kuwait’s Civil ID system

Kuwait bid farewell yesterday to one of its most distinguished national figures, Faisal Abdulrahman Al-Shaiji, whose legacy spans decades of innovation and public service.
The late Al-Shaiji, laid to rest yesterday, was a visionary credited with founding Kuwait’s civil ID system and serving as its first general manager until 2006.
His contributions extended to modernizing public administration, including pioneering the transfer of salaries through banks and developing a system based on average consumption theory to address challenges in electricity meter readings.
A trailblazer in technology, Al-Shaiji was among the first Kuwaitis to earn a degree in computer science and was honored with the Salem Al-Ali Informatics Award in 2022.
