KFAED signs $4 million in grants to provide clean water in Gaza and Sudan

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has signed two $2 million grant agreements with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to support emergency water projects in Gaza and Sudan, on the sidelines of the 2025 Spring Meetings of the World Bank and IMF in Washington.
In Gaza, the project aims to relieve humanitarian suffering by installing solar-powered mobile desalination units, ensuring safe drinking water for an estimated 250,000 residents, mostly women and children, according to Al-Rai daily.
This comes in response to the disruption of main water sources and reliance on polluted supplies, contributing to disease spread. It marks the sixth such collaboration, bringing total Kuwaiti aid through UNDP to $12.6 million since 2013.
In Sudan, the project will improve water access for 500,000 people, including internally displaced persons, refugees, returnees, and 24 host communities. It focuses on delivering environmentally friendly infrastructure, equitable water access, and sustainable local service capabilities. This marks the fifth collaboration, with total support reaching $10.6 million since 2013.
The agreements were signed by Waleed Al-Bahar for KFAED and Abdullah Al-Dardari for UNDP.
