Kuwait affirms strong commitment to criminal justice reform at UN Forum

Kuwait’s Public Prosecutor, Counselor Bader Al-Masoud, reaffirmed the country’s firm commitment to enhancing its criminal justice system, describing it as a foundational pillar for societal stability and the safeguarding of human dignity.

Speaking at the 34th session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Vienna, Al-Masoud emphasized Kuwait’s dedication to aligning its national laws with international legal standards. He highlighted that a just society cannot be built through court rulings alone, but also requires mechanisms of reconciliation that reflect the spirit of justice, reports news agencies.

He noted that Kuwait has adopted progressive legal frameworks that allow for the suspension of judicial proceedings in certain cases—specifically those that do not pose a threat to public safety, such as personal harm or material damage — if the parties involved reach an amicable settlement.

“These conciliatory measures,” Al-Masoud explained, “not only ease the pressure on the judicial system, but also provide a more flexible and humane approach to justice.”

His remarks underscore Kuwait’s efforts to modernize its legal structure, emphasizing restorative justice and alternative dispute resolution, which aim to resolve conflicts more constructively while promoting social harmony.
