Jordan hangs six convicted terror and criminal offenders

Jordan on Sunday executed six prisoners convicted in terrorism-related and criminal cases after their death sentences became final and all legal and constitutional procedures had been completed, the Jordanian government said.

Jordanian Minister of Government Communication and government spokesperson Dr. Mohammad Al-Momani said the executions were carried out by hanging early Sunday morning in accordance with the law.

According to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), the six convicts had been sentenced in cases falling under the jurisdiction of the State Security Court. The rulings had exhausted all avenues of appeal before being implemented.

The executions were conducted under the supervision of the Attorney General of the State Security Court and in line with Article 359 of Jordan’s Code of Criminal Procedure, Petra reported.

Jordan continues to retain the death penalty for a number of serious offences, including terrorism-related crimes and certain major criminal offences.
