Iranian professor highlights enduring value and timeless influence of art
Prof. Abol Hasan Simkash, a professor at Arab Open University Kuwait, captivated the audience during the screening of a short film, noting, “Classical works of art transcend time, remaining relevant across languages and cultures.”
• Chonnamanga, a short film written and directed by renowned expatriate filmmaker Shemej Kumar, is a modern adaptation of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer’s Childhood Friend. The film holds special significance as it features the final performance of beloved actor Mamukoya.
In a packed Ahmadi DPS Auditorium, Prof. Abol Hasan Simkash, an esteemed Iranian professor at Arab Open University Kuwait and the evening’s chief guest, captivated the audience with his insightful remarks during the screening of Chonnamanga. He noted, “Classical works of art transcend time, remaining relevant across languages and cultures,” highlighting the enduring value and timeless influence of art.
Chonnamanga, a short film written and directed by renowned expatriate filmmaker Shemej Kumar, is a modern adaptation of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer’s Childhood Friend. The film holds special significance as it features the final performance of beloved actor Mamukoya. The soul-stirring music, with lyrics by Anees Basheer and compositions by Shahbaz Aman, deepens the film’s emotional impact. Cinematographer Shankardas, based in Kuwait, masterfully captured the visuals, while Hari G. Nair handled the editing. The evocative background score was composed by Sriram Susheel.
The screening was organized by the Future Eye Film Club in Kuwait, presided over by the club’s president, Santhosh Kuttath. Secretary Unni Kaimal extended a warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude, while Muhammad Sali provided a detailed overview of the film club’s activities. Moderators Remya Ratheesh and Rajesh TR skillfully guided the event. The core members of the Future Eye Film Club were introduced during the event, and Dr. Pramod Menon, the club’s treasurer, delivered the vote of thanks.
