Iran attacks ‘signs of desperation’; UAE condemns targeting of civilian sites and shipping

UAE leaders warn Iran strikes serious escalation threatening both regional stability and global security

Top officials in the United Arab Emirates have strongly condemned recent Iranian attacks, warning that the targeting of civilian infrastructure and commercial shipping represents a serious escalation threatening both regional stability and global security.

The statements follow drone and missile strikes that injured three Indian nationals and an attack on an ADNOC tanker while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Emirati leaders stressed that the UAE will not be intimidated and retains its full right to defend its sovereignty and protect its citizens and residents. Officials said the repeated attacks reflect a pattern of escalation that endangers international maritime security and energy flows, the Khaleej Times reports.

Dr. Anwar Gargash described the strikes as a sign of desperation, saying the targeting of civilians reflects “moral bankruptcy” and a deliberate choice of aggression. He added that Iran has miscalculated if it believes such actions will influence the UAE’s stance or regional relations.

Gargash further warned that continued attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz amount to acts of maritime piracy, stressing the UAE’s firm position in defending freedom of navigation.

He also welcomed international solidarity, saying global responses show growing rejection of destabilizing behavior and reinforce a rules-based international order.

Other senior Emirati figures echoed similar concerns. Ali Alnuaimi said the attacks reflect a sustained pattern of aggression aimed at undermining regional stability, arguing that Iran cannot be treated as a reliable negotiating partner given its conduct.

Political analyst Abdulkhaleq Abdulla went further, describing the situation as a global security concern, warning that the Iranian actions represent an existential threat to regional and international stability, and calling for a decisive global response to deter further escalation.
