India has announced a reduction in customs duties on exports of gasoline, diesel, and aviation turbine fuel (ATF), with the revised rates set to take effect from June 1 for a two-week period.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the government said the export duty on gasoline has been fixed at 1.5 rupees per liter, while diesel exports will be subject to a duty of 13.5 rupees per liter. The export levy on jet fuel has been set at 9.5 rupees per liter.
The move is part of India’s periodic review mechanism aimed at aligning export duties with prevailing global energy market conditions.
Authorities said the duty rates are reassessed every two weeks based on average international prices of crude oil and refined petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, recorded since the previous review.
India, one of the world’s largest refiners and fuel exporters, regularly adjusts export taxes to balance domestic fuel availability, government revenue considerations, and the competitiveness of its petroleum exports in global markets.
Market analysts said the reduction in duties could provide relief to refiners by improving export margins amid fluctuating global crude prices and changing demand patterns across international energy markets.
The latest revision reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to respond swiftly to developments in global oil markets while ensuring stability in domestic fuel supplies.
