H.H. the Amir accepts Commerce Minister Osama Boodai’s resignation
Al-Marzouq named acting minister
Kuwait’s political and economic leadership saw a significant change on Monday as an Amiri decree accepted the resignation of Minister of Commerce and Industry Osama Khaled Abdullah Boodai and assigned Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment Abdulaziz Nasser Abdulaziz Al-Marzouq to serve as Acting Minister of Commerce and Industry.
The move places the Commerce and Industry portfolio under the temporary leadership of Al-Marzouq, who will take on the additional responsibility alongside his existing duties as Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment.
The decree, No. 148 of 2026, was issued by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah based on the proposal of Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah. Under the first article of the decree, Boodai’s resignation as Minister of Commerce and Industry was formally accepted.
The second article appoints Al-Marzouq as Acting Minister of Commerce and Industry in addition to his current responsibilities. The Prime Minister was directed to implement the decree, which takes effect from the date of its issuance and is to be published in the Official Gazette.
The decree was issued at Al-Seif Palace on Sept 14, 2026.
The decision comes as the government continues to place strong emphasis on economic affairs, investment and the development of Kuwait’s business environment, making the Commerce and Industry portfolio a key component of its economic policy agenda.
