The “Gulf Shield 2026” joint military exercise has officially commenced in the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the participation of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces alongside the militaries of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Kuwaiti Army said the exercise aims to enhance combat readiness, strengthen joint military operations, and achieve operational integration within a unified command environment, in line with international best practices.
The drill seeks to unify operational concepts and raise the level of coordination and efficiency among participating forces.

The army explained that the exercise includes a comprehensive set of operational procedures, field tests, and tactical scenarios designed to assess combat preparedness and the effectiveness of responses to a wide range of potential threats.
These activities aim to reinforce the GCC’s flexible deterrence system through integrated joint action, reports Al-Rai daily.

Kuwait is participating in the exercise through its Air Force and Air Defense Force, underscoring the State of Kuwait’s commitment to supporting the joint Gulf military framework and contributing to the security, safety, and stability of GCC countries.
For his part, GCC Secretary-General Jassim Al-Budaiwi expressed pride in the launch of the exercise, describing it as a practical embodiment of deep-rooted Gulf military integration and a clear reflection of the GCC states’ shared vision to consolidate collective defense cooperation.

Al-Budaiwi emphasized that “Gulf Shield 2026” plays a vital role in unifying Gulf military efforts, developing joint defense capabilities, and ensuring the highest levels of coordination and integration to confront current and future security challenges, thereby safeguarding the long-term stability of the Gulf region.
