Govt approves first phase of debt relief for 411 citizens under third national campaign

Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Chairman of the Debtors Committee, Dr. Khaled Al-Ajmi, announced that the first installment of debt settlements for Kuwaiti citizens whose debts do not exceed 5,000 dinars has been approved.
As part of this initial phase, the names of over 411 eligible citizens of both sexes have been submitted to the General Department of Implementation at the Ministry of Justice to begin the settlement process in accordance with established legal procedures, reports Al-Rai daily.
This initiative is part of the third national campaign to settle the debts of financially distressed citizens. The campaign is driven by a humanitarian vision and governed by strict standards of transparency and justice.
Dr. Al-Ajmi emphasized that this achievement reflects the collaborative efforts of six technical and legal committees operating under the Supreme Committee.
These committees include representatives from the ministries of Interior, Justice (Civil Execution Department), Islamic Affairs, Social Affairs, the General Secretariat of Endowments, the Zakat House.
He clarified that the committees have reviewed and approved a number of cases based on specific criteria that the applicants must be Kuwaiti nationals, must not have benefited from the 2023 or 2024 debt campaigns, the debt must be due for enforcement, and there must be an existing execution file.
To ensure transparency and smooth communication with citizens, the committee has activated direct response channels through the “Sahel” app.
The beneficiaries will receive official notifications via “Sahel” confirming that their debts have been settled, allowing them to monitor the progress of their cases accurately and efficiently.
Dr. Al-Ajmi also noted that preparations are underway to review the files of a second group of citizens whose debts do not exceed 10,000 dinars. This will be followed by a third phase targeting individuals with debts up to 15,000 dinars, all in accordance with available financial resources.
In conclusion, Al-Ajmi affirmed that the third national campaign marks a significant milestone in Kuwait’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian values, human dignity, and social solidarity.
He reiterated that the committee remains committed to ensuring that assistance reaches those most in need, within a framework that upholds justice and public trust.
