Farwaniya Hospital successfully performs first reverse total shoulder replacement surgery
The procedure was conducted on an elderly patient suffering from a complex shoulder fracture

The Head of the Orthopedic Department at Farwaniya Hospital, Dr. Mohammad Mufeed, announced that the hospital has successfully performed its first reverse total shoulder replacement surgery.
The procedure was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Bader Al-Bashara, a specialist in orthopedic and shoulder surgery, on an elderly patient who had suffered a complex and severe shoulder fracture that had left her unable to move her shoulder.
In a statement to Al-Rai, Dr. Mufeed explained that this type of surgery is considered advanced in the field of shoulder joint surgery and offers excellent results, especially when performed on elderly patients with complex fractures or those with severe arthritis accompanied by chronic rotator cuff tears.
He added that the patient was discharged from the hospital in excellent condition without any complications. The patient will be followed up in the hospital’s outpatient clinics to ensure optimal recovery and full restoration of shoulder movement.
