Evening shift system rolls out in government offices across Kuwait

The Civil Service Bureau’s evening work regulations include a 4.5-hour workday starting no earlier than 3:30 pm, with no flexible hours for evening shift employees.

• The event shift system aims to provide citizens and residents the opportunity to complete transactions by simplifying procedures and offering access at multiple times that suit reviewers, which will also contribute to increasing employee productivity.

Ministries and government agencies will begin implementing the evening shift system for organizational units approved by the Civil Service Bureau, along with the selected employees, in accordance with the bureau’s established conditions, as reported by Al Rai newspaper.

Informed sources told the newspaper that “ministries, agencies, and institutions officially determined some time ago the names and numbers of employees selected to work the evening shift,” noting that the evening shift system is being implemented as part of the Cabinet’s decision to improve the work environment in the government sector.

The initiative aims to provide citizens and residents the opportunity to complete transactions by simplifying procedures and offering access at multiple times that suit reviewers, which will also contribute to increasing employee productivity.

The sources pointed out that most government agencies, which predominantly rely on shift work, have identified only a small number of organizational units and employees for evening shifts, compared to other agencies that do not primarily use the shift system.

The sources also recalled the regulations set by the bureau for evening work, including a maximum of 4.5 actual working hours per day, with shifts not starting before 3:30 pm. Additionally, flexible working hours will not apply to employees working the evening shift, among other conditions.
