EU Special Representative for the Gulf to visit Kuwait tomorrow

Luigi Di Maio, the European Union (EU) Special Representative for the Gulf, will arrive in Kuwait tomorrow for a two-day official visit. The visit coincides with the fifth anniversary of the opening of the EU Delegation in Kuwait.

This visit is particularly significant as it coincides with the fifth anniversary of the opening of the EU Delegation in Kuwait.

Highlighting strong EU-Kuwait partnership

Sources at Al-Rai newspaper state that during his visit, Di Maio will be the keynote speaker at a ceremony held by the EU Delegation in Kuwait.

This ceremony is being organized to celebrate the important milestone that reflects the strong partnership between the EU and Kuwait.

Di Maio’s visit will also include meetings with key Kuwaiti officials. He is scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sabah, Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Al-Jaber, and other senior Kuwaiti figures.

Luigi Di Maio expressed his honor at being part of the celebrations

“This is my third visit to Kuwait since I took office as the EU Special Representative a year ago,” he said.

“I am honored to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the opening of the EU Delegation in Kuwait. I also look forward to having fruitful and in-depth discussions with my Kuwaiti counterparts on regional issues and finding tangible ways to strengthen relations between the EU and Kuwait. I am also pleased to have the opportunity to interact with young Kuwaiti diplomats at the Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah Diplomatic Institute.”

EU Ambassador to Kuwait highlights the significance of the visit

The EU Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Anne Koistinen, also highlighted the importance of the visit and the strong EU-Kuwait relations.

“We are pleased to welcome the EU Special Representative for the Gulf Luigi Di Maio during our celebration of the fifth anniversary of the opening of the EU Delegation in Kuwait,” she said.

“The EU Delegation was opened on July 14, 2019 by then Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid, and the then High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Federica Mogherini,” the Ambassador noted.

She further stressed, “Since then, our relations have become stronger than ever before and we look forward to continuing to work closely with the Kuwaiti government and people to strengthen the strong ties between the EU and Kuwait.”
