Education Ministry cracks down on unauthorized nurseries in private schools

As part of its ongoing educational reform strategy, Kuwait’s Ministry of Education has identified and acted against violations in several private schools, reaffirming its commitment to enforcing regulatory standards and ensuring adherence to approved educational systems.

Sources told Al-Rai that the most significant violation involved the unauthorized opening of pre-kindergarten (nursery) classes by some schools—a clear breach of the Ministry’s classification guidelines. These classes, the Ministry clarified, fall under the jurisdiction of nurseries, not kindergartens attached to schools.

In response, the Ministry issued official warnings to the offending schools, instructing them to correct the violations within three working days of receiving the notice. Schools were also required to submit a written pledge confirming compliance with the Ministry’s instructions to avoid potential legal consequences.

The Ministry’s actions are based on Paragraph (4) of Article (6) of Ministerial Resolution No. 67/46601 governing private education, which prohibits any changes to the school building or the addition or cancellation of educational levels during the license validity period without prior approval from the Ministry.

The presence of nursery-level classes, the sources stressed, violates the approved operational framework of these schools. The Ministry has demanded the immediate removal of these classes and a return to full regulatory compliance.

This enforcement measure is part of a broader plan to intensify inspections of private schools across all systems, ensuring compliance with educational regulations and safeguarding the rights of students and their families.

The Ministry reiterated that improving private education cannot be separated from strict adherence to regulatory rules. Any deviations or unauthorized expansions will be met with firm action to uphold the quality of education and maintain trust in the educational system.
