Dr Al-Huwailah dissolves Coop Union Board over financial, administrative violations
Al-Mutairi has been appointed as interim director for a period of one year, or until a new board is elected

The Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, has issued a ministerial resolution to dissolve the Board of Directors of the Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies citing serious financial and administrative irregularities.
The decision follows the findings of a special committee which was formed under Ministerial Resolution No. (64/2024) to examine audit and review committees reports concerning the operations and finances of cooperative societies, reports Al-Jarida daily.
As part of the resolution, Abdulaziz Al-Mutairi has been appointed as interim director for a period of one year, or until a new board is elected.
The former board is required to hand over all assets, documents, and responsibilities to the interim director within one week of the issuance of the decision.
The move follows a series of developments, including an investigation conducted on May 11 by a committee composed of members from the Fatwa and Legislation Department, which questioned each board member individually.
The inquiry centered on a Federation circular approving the sale of fresh agricultural products under the “Taawun” label, which had raised concerns of potential profiteering.
Earlier today, the daily had reported that the board’s activities had already been suspended due to multiple resignations, leading to the loss of quorum required for the board to function.
