Deike Potzel: “Kuwait has always been a very strong supporter of international humanitarian aid”
During a press conference organized by the German Embassy in Kuwait, Special Envoy for Humanitarian Aid in the Middle East, Deike Potzel categorically stated that everyone appreciates Kuwait's role, not only in terms of funding but also in terms of its humanitarian positions.

Potzel stressed the importance of respecting international humanitarian law, protecting civilians and aid workers, and ensuring aid reaches those in needs.
The Director General of the Department of Crisis Prevention, Stabilization, Post-Conflict Peace Building, and Humanitarian Assistance at the German Foreign Ministry, and Special Envoy for Humanitarian Aid in the Middle East, Deike Potzel, held a press conference organized by the German Embassy in Kuwait, where she discussed Germany’s humanitarian aid efforts in the region.
Potzel said that, Germany has long been one of the largest donors in the humanitarian field, and is currently ranked second among donors, having spent 2.3 billion euros on humanitarian aid this year.
She added that it is clear Germany’s priorities after Ukraine are; Africa and the Middle East, and the country has also been one of the largest supporters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), since many years.
Potzel continued that, Germany’s Foreign Minister has traveled to the Middle East region more than 20 times over the past year, in an attempt to reach a solution that would allow more humanitarian aid to support those in need in the Gaza Strip. Also Germany supports Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan regarding the humanitarian situation there.
Additionally, Potzel stressed that the international humanitarian law must be respected, keeping in consideration the protection of civilian lives and aid workers, and ensuring that aid reaches those in need.
Potzel expressed her happiness to be in Kuwait and participate in the 2025 Humanitarian Overview Conference, titled ‘Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities’.
On a concluding note, Potzel said that Germany truly appreciates Kuwait’s role in organizing this meeting. Kuwait has always been a very strong supporter of the international humanitarian system for a long time, and she thinks that everyone appreciates Kuwait’s role, not only in terms of funding but also in terms of its humanitarian positions.
Potzel agreed that Germany wants to look at strengthening bilateral cooperation with Kuwait in the field of conflicts, working closely in the international arena on common issues.
