Deep Kuwaiti ties, testimony of a bond between peoples, not just governments

President Joseph Aoun to visit Kuwait soon to reinforce historic bilateral relations

With deep appreciation and gratitude, Lebanese Finance Minister Yassine Jaber emphasized Lebanon’s strong and historic relationship with Kuwait, highlighting the critical need for Lebanon to be given “room to breathe” as it embarks on a crucial reform journey after enduring successive crises.

Jaber praised Kuwait’s unwavering support, stating: “The Lebanese consider Kuwait one of the most important countries that has always stood by us. The relationship between our nations is not limited to governments—it is a bond between the Lebanese and Kuwaiti people.”

The Al-Rai daily, quoting Jaber, revealed that officials from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development will soon visit Beirut, stating: “We have ongoing projects with the Fund and future plans that will soon follow their natural course after my recent visit to Kuwait on April 9–10, during the joint annual meetings of financial institutions and the 16th regular session of the Council of Arab Finance Ministers.”

He also hinted at a forthcoming high-level visit by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to Kuwait, reinforcing Lebanon’s commitment to strengthening not only political ties but also the enduring bonds between its people and their Kuwaiti counterparts.

Jaber elaborated on the deep social and familial ties binding the two nations, pointing out that “many Kuwaiti brothers, he said, own homes in Lebanon, especially in Beirut, Mount Lebanon, and summer resorts. They know Beirut as well as I do—perhaps even more. Some have Lebanese spouses or mothers. This is a historical and deep-rooted relationship.”

Jaber firmly dismissed the notion that reforms are being imposed on Lebanon from abroad, saying, “We are fully aware that we are in dire need of reform. This is a Lebanese demand before it is an international one. The reform process is an absolute necessity.”

Minister Jaber concluded with a message of optimism and determination. “Reforms are not a burden placed on us—they are our path forward. Lebanon must be given the chance to recover and rebuild, and the friendship and support of Kuwait and other Arab brothers will remain central to this journey.”
