Deadly shooting at Minneapolis Catholic School Mass leaves two children dead, several others injured

The tragic shooting at Minneapolis Annunciation Catholic School on Wednesday morning, left two children dead and seventeen others wounded, including fourteen children and three elderly parishioners. The attack occurred during a Mass marking the first week of classes at the school.

The shooter has been identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, a 2017 graduate of the same school. Authorities confirmed that Westman is now dead. Police said they are investigating a manifesto he shared on social media prior to the attack.

Eyewitness accounts from students described the terror inside the church. One fifth grader told CNN that a friend shielded him as shots rang out, illustrating the chaos and heroism amid the violence.

This tragic incident marks the 44th school shooting in the United States this year, according to a CNN analysis, renewing urgent calls from some Democrats for stronger gun control measures.

The attack is also part of a disturbing wave of gun violence in Minneapolis. Police and first responders reported that Wednesday’s shooting was the fourth deadly shooting in the city in less than 24 hours.

On Tuesday at around 2 p.m., a shooter killed one person and injured six others in south Minneapolis. Later that evening, at 8 p.m., another shooting left one man dead and another wounded.

Then, at approximately 2 a.m. on Wednesday, a shooter opened fire on a group on a sidewalk, killing one and wounding another. Minneapolis Police said they are unsure if the incidents are connected.

Police Chief Brian O’Hara described the city’s surge in gun violence over the past day as “deeply unsettling,” stressing the urgent need for coordinated safety measures to protect residents.

The community and first responders continue to grapple with the shock of the attack, as investigations into the shooter’s motives and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing.
