Customs foil liquor smuggling bid

3,591 bottles of booze hidden inside cables has a street value of 250,000 dinars

In a major anti-smuggling breakthrough, the General Administration of Customs successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 3,591 bottles of liquor that were professionally concealed inside solid cable reels within a 20-foot container arriving from a foreign country.

The market value of the seized contraband is estimated at approximately 250,000 Kuwaiti dinars, according to a security source.

In an official statement, Customs described the operation as “an achievement that adds to the series of successes in combating smuggling,” noting that the discovery was made with the support of the General Fire Force, reports Al-Anba daily.

The operation began when customs officers suspected the contents of a container labeled as carrying industrial cable reels. Upon conducting a thorough inspection, specialized teams from the Fire Force dismantled the reels, revealing thousands of bottles of alcohol expertly hidden to evade detection.

Following the seizure, immediate coordination was made with the General Department of Narcotics Control, which was provided with comprehensive details of the shipment — including sender and recipient information and documentation. The listed recipient was promptly arrested, and legal procedures are now underway.

The Customs Department highlighted this case as a model of advanced inspection techniques and effective inter-agency cooperation, reiterating its commitment to protecting the country from the infiltration of banned substances.

It also stressed that stringent deterrent measures will continue to be enforced against anyone attempting to smuggle prohibited goods into Kuwait.
