Council of Ministers discuss establishment of grievances committee
The Council of Ministers approved a draft decree appointing a Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Kuwait Financial Intelligence Unit, for a term of four years.
Furthermore, the Council also approved a draft decree appointing the Chairman, Vice Chairman, and members of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Roads and Land Transport for a term of four years.
The Council approved a draft decree to form a committee to hear appeals against decisions made by the Board of Directors of the Central Agency for Public Tenders for a term of three years. The Council of Ministers submitted the draft decrees to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad for approval.
The weekly meeting of the Council was held today, Tuesday, at Bayan Palace, which was chaired by Acting Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior, H. E. Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef.
Baku Summit
The Council of Ministers praised the speech delivered by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, representing His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad, at the World Climate Action Summit (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, last Wednesday.
In his speech, His Highness highlighted that climate change has become a global concern and poses a significant threat to many countries, including Kuwait. He pointed out the tangible and accelerating effects of climate change in Kuwait, such as rising temperatures, dust storms, and reduced rainfall, which are increasingly impacting daily life.
Importantly, His Highness the Crown Prince reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to environmental sustainability and to fulfilling its obligations under the Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol through various national projects.
Moreover, His Highness also called on developed nations to honor their obligations and provide financial and technical support to help developing and least-developed countries adapt to climate change and implement their nationally determined contributions.
In his speech, His Highness the Amir’s representative, His Highness the Crown Prince, highlighted the role of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in supporting developing countries. The Fund has provided 1,330 loans and grants, valued at $23 billion, to help reduce climate impacts.
On a significant note, His Highness emphasized Kuwait’s commitment to aligning economic growth with low-carbon development and climate resilience by 2050, with a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
This includes strategic projects to reduce carbon emissions, promote clean energy, and increase the share of solar energy in electricity production to 50% by 2050.
His Highness also expressed Kuwait’s intention to introduce new low-carbon technologies and develop long-term partnerships to invest in sustainable energy.
The Cabinet was briefed on the meetings held by His Highness the Amir’s representative, His Highness the Crown Prince, on the sidelines of the World Climate Action Summit (COP29) in Baku, which took place from November 11 to 13, 2024.
These meetings included discussions with Iraqi President, H.E. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid; Azerbaijani President, H.E. Ilham Aliyev; Kazakh President, H.E. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev; Montenegrin President, H.E. Jakov Milatović; Jordanian Crown Prince, H.E. Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and; IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
The discussions focused on strengthening joint relations between Kuwait and these countries across various sectors, as well as addressing key regional and international developments.
Removal of Encroachments
The Cabinet reviewed a visual presentation by the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs, Abdul Latif Al-Mishari, detailing the efforts of the team assigned to remove encroachments on state property.
The presentation outlined the team’s work in monitoring various forms of encroachments and violations, issuing reports on these violations, and taking legal action. It also highlighted the procedures followed to remove encroachments in compliance with established regulations.
The Council of Ministers expressed its full support for the efforts of Minister Abdul Latif Al-Mishari and the team working to remove encroachments on state property.
The Cabinet emphasized the importance of adhering to laws and regulations, urging the team to remain strict and not show leniency when dealing with violations or encroachments on state-owned land.
Nationality
The Council of Ministers approved the minutes of the Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Nationality, which addressed cases involving the loss and withdrawal of Kuwaiti nationality from individuals who had obtained it through fraud and forgery.
This decision was made in accordance with the provisions of Decree Law No. (15) of 1959 on Kuwaiti nationality and its amendments.
Oman
On the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the National Day of the Sultanate of Oman, which was celebrated on Monday, the Council of Ministers extended its heartfelt congratulations to H. E. Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.
The Cabinet expressed its deep pride in the strong, fraternal, and historical relations between Kuwait and Oman, highlighting the notable achievements and comprehensive development Oman has made across various fields.
