CITRA slaps KD 496,500 in fines for ten violations in H1 2024

The Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority reported that 10% of violations were related to promotional offers and 30% to unapproved listings.

The Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) reported having monitored and issued 43 violations between January 2020 and June 30, 2024. The total fines collected for these violations reached KD 3.24 million, according to Al Anba newspaper.

The authority stated that in 2020, there were eight violations resulting in fines of 57,000 dinars. In 2021, there were three violations with fines totaling 237,500 dinars. In 2022, nine violations were recorded, with fines amounting to 177,000 dinars. In 2023, there were 13 violations, resulting in fines of 2.27 million dinars.

During the first half of 2024, ten violations were recorded, with fines totaling 496,500 dinars.

The authority stated on its Instagram account that non-compliance with regulatory controls issued by the authority accounted for the largest share of violations, at up to 60%. Violations related to promotional offers constituted ten percent while thirty percent were due to listing offers not approved by the authority during the first half of this year.

The violations were categorized into several key areas, including: number transfer issues, non-compliance with regulatory controls, promotional offer violations, encroachment on scope, interconnection of text messages, and listing unapproved offers set by the authority.
